5 Types of Sexy Lingerie You Won’t Feel Silly Wearing…

5 styles of lingerie you won't feel silly wearing

Let’s face it… not all of us are happy to dress up as a flirty maid, a naughty nurse or sultry air hostess. Don’t get me wrong – if that’s your thing, go for it. But it’s not for me.

A temptress? Absolutely! A call-girl? Why not? A (nicely) sadistic mistress? Count me in! I’m even OK with the image of a pole-dancer. But I’m just not into the ‘sexy cosplay’ scene.

I’ve bought – and been given – a lot of lingerie over the years. And just like every category of clothing in my wardrobe I have my favorites as well as pieces that got a single outing and have since stayed in my secret drawer. (I’m a lingerie tragic. I find it impossible to throw any lingerie item out, even though I’ve grown from a petite waif to a mature woman. After all, every piece contains memories worth having!)

It goes without saying however that the lingerie that made it on my must-have list are the ones that don’t make me feel silly. And if you’re like me and want to find lingerie that you can wear without feeling a little ridiculous, pay attention. These pieces below will make you rethink lingerie’s role in your life.

1. Sleepwear Sets

If the idea of sexy, intimate wear makes you so self-conscious, I suggest that your first baby step towards the world of lingerie should be a simple but pretty sleepwear set.

They’re functional, so you can’t think that you’re being too frivolous and impractical. And if you choose one that’s well-made and designed, you know you’re getting something flattering, sexy, and comfortable. Try this three-piece lace set featuring a triangle bralette with matching panty and a delicate lace robe or this burgundy satin and lace three-piece number with a comfy yet sexy lace top and bottom with matching boy-leg shorts.

2. Classic Lingerie Sets

When you’re looking to find lingerie that you can feel confident in, you can never go wrong with the classics. Classic never goes out of style. And this means you get functional lingerie that you’ll actually wear without sacrificing its inherent “wow” factor.

Choose lingerie styles that make you comfortable emotionally and physically.

The key thing to remember here is to choose sets that you think are pretty, in cuts that are comfortable. I’m partial to this three-piece set featuring a bustier bralette with matching panty and lacy garters if you’re going for something crazy sexy. On the other hand, if you’re in a more Netflix and chill kind of mood, you can try this cute two-piece cami and panty combo.

3. Babydoll

A look that’s equal parts playful and demure, babydoll lingerie is a sexier take on your traditional nightgown. They’re short, loose-fitting negligees that are incredibly figure flattering, which is why they’re at the top of my lingerie must-have list.

My favorites include this gorgeous eyelash lace babydoll, which features exquisite details and sultry deep-V that cinches your waist; and this elegant open front style trimmed with satin ribbons and lace.

4. Teddies

Well-designed teddies are quite simply, beautiful. They’re delicate yet functional, having long been considered lingerie essentials. They’re often made using a stretchy fabric, trimmed with lace, silk, or satin to create a form fitting one-piece suit that gives you a little more coverage.

Some of my favorites include this cap sleeved floral lace number with a deep-v and this long-sleeved, low-cut scarlet piece with scalloped lace details. Both are equally sexy and delicate. Worn alone it’s the perfect outfit for some flirty fun. But they can easily be worn under a blazer, a pair of jeans, and high heels for a chic, on-trend night-out look as well.

5. Accessories

This is another great idea if you can’t yet commit to a full lingerie set or lacy ensemble. A few choice accessories can spice up even your plainest undergarments. For example, a fishnet panty hose paired with your most austere suit can make a striking fashion statement. A more casual but very trendy take on fishnets is having it peek through the waistband of your favorite jeans.

A good robe is also a great way to add a little sexiness to your basic undergarments. A simple cotton bra and panty lounge set can get that much needed oomph when paired with a slinky satin kimono without making you feel like you’re completely going over the top.

Lingerie and the beautiful you!

There’s a whole world of lingerie out there—something that will fit every mood and every style. I personally think that having the right lingerie pieces in your wardrobe can be game changing for your confidence. So don’t be afraid to be adventurous and explore your options.
